Ridiculous Video: Surfer Garrett McNamara Sets Record By Riding 78-Foot Wave

Next time you’re thinking about a nice little beach vacation, you might want to rule out Nazaré, Portugal as a possible destination.

Last November at that very location, a surfer named Garrett McNamara (who has been described as “legendary” several times) rode what was unofficially called the largest wave ever surfed. Last week that claim was substantiated, and McNamara now holds the Guinness World Record after riding the wave that was measured at 78 feet by the Totally Tubular Big Wave Surfing Division at Guinness. Chris Davis And The Greatest Out-Of-Position Performances Of All Time

Yesterday afternoon I was treated to one of the greatest endings to a baseball game I have ever seen. No, it wasn’t the playoffs. No, there wasn’t a dramatic walk-off homerun. No, it didn’t involve Bryce Harper. What made the Baltimore Orioles’ 9-6 victory over the Boston Red Sox yesterday so special is that by the end of it, the 17th inning, the two pitchers of record were both position players.

What made it even more special is that the Orioles first baseman Chris Davis not only picked up the win—the first for an American League position player since 1968—but he was also downright filthy. When a position player is called upon to pitch, you generally expect to see him throwing fastballs in the low 80s, maybe mixing in a slow curve or a bad slider just to mix things up. What The NHL Trade Deadline Moves Really Mean

The NHL trade deadline came and went on Monday as a number of teams added pieces for that final playoff push. Rick Nash not being traded was the day’s biggest story, but there were a number of important deals on Monday and the days leading up to the deadline. The Sad State Of Sports In Los Angeles

This past week the greater Los Angeles area was ravaged by robust winds that left thousands without power and caused massive trees to be uprooted and fall on everything from cars to houses. But that disaster paled in comparison to what I had to endure on Saturday when I watched the UCLA men’s basketball team lose to Texas.
