LeBron James’ Cyborg Legs Malfunction Late In Game Four

When Manfred Clynes and Nathan S. Kline first coined the term “cyborg” in a 1960 article, they never expected that the performance of the human-machine hybrids would reach the levels that we’re seeing today.

The best example, of course, is cybernetic organism 2306—known in most circles as LeBron James—who has been thrilling audiences of millions for several years with his near-perfection in the sport of basketball. That’s why it came as a shock when, during last night’s Game Four between the Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder, 2306 had to be removed due to a circuitry error in the lower biomechanical appendages. The NBA Needs An Offensive Player Of The Year Award

This year two of the NBA’s elite stars, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant, are engaging in the closest race for the scoring title in the history of the league. In any other year one of them would also most likely be crowned the league’s MVP, but this year both players will come away empty-handed.

The MVP has always been an ambiguous and hotly debated award, largely due to the fact that there is no language that dictates what the world “valuable” precisely means. Some think that it’s the player whose absence would most greatly affect his team. Others think it’s the player who puts on the greatest individual performance on both ends of the floor. Today they’re passed around like currency on social media, and it takes some serious patience to find a good one. Take the most recent wave of “What I Really Do” memes that made the rounds from every occupation from journalists to cat ladies. Most of them were god-awful, but occasionally there was one that made you chuckle. Continue reading

Oh By The Way, Deron Williams Scored 57 Points Yesterday

It was the highest single-game scoring total by any player this season, but it was only the third most important story of the day. Deron Williams’ extraordinary scoring effort yesterday for the New Jersey Nets (57 points, 16-29 fg, 21-21 ft) against the Charlotte Bobcats was trumped by two stories (the order flip-flops depending on the region): Continue reading
